2008 Assumption Track and Field Team Members

Michelle Amon

10

Michelle was one of our top long jumpers this season, something she accomplished while balancing her track training with field hockey.  She shows promise in the sprinting events.  With stronger legs and another year of experience, we hope to see Michelle step up for us next Spring.

Taylor Armstrong

11

Taylor is a hard worker, and someone who was able to excel when it counted most – all in spite of the fact that we were able to get her very little coaching this season.  Taylor’s challenge was to step up at the Regional Meet and she did so by hitting a big PR in the discus.

Liz Arnold

11

Liz is a great young lady who demonstrated great responsibility at times this season.  She spent much of her season helping our relay teams, and her experience was a valuable thing to have around.  Going into next Spring, she’ll be one of the girls we look to for leadership on this team.

Alanna Baugher

11

Alanna is a girl who found her niche as our sole pole vaulter this season.  She is a two-time Regional Champion in the Pole Vault, earning a second trip to the State Meet in that event.  With some off-season work, we expect to see big things in this event from her next year.

Leslie Blanchard

9

Leslie focused mainly on the 400 this season and managed to run well in that event for us.  Perhaps her most memorable race was in the Academy Meet, where she helped pull our team into contention and set up a near victory over Mercy.

Katherine Blanford

11

Katherine returned to us this year as an important part of our 400m running group.  Although she may claim to be a “helper horse”, she means a lot more to the team than she’ll admit.  It was also fun listening to Caroline and her act like sisters some times at practice.

Melanie Brumleve

11

Mel is a model of consistency and perseverance.  She is one of the few girls we have who will request to run in the 3200, a race she approaches with as much seriousness as any girl we have.  She dropped a tremendous amount of time this season, with her greatest race coming at the Butler Invitational.

Rebecca Burch

11

Becca is surely beginning to wonder whether it’s meant for her to have a track season that’s free of physical problems.  Certainly one of our most solid role models, Becca is someone who demonstrates great personal qualities as well as athletic ability.

Kathryn Burch

12

Although it wasn’t the easiest season for Kathryn this Spring, she still managed to provide leadership and use her athletic ability to score points at the Regional Meet in her specialty event, the 100m hurdles.  Kathryn will be greatly missed next year, as she is a wonderful young lady.

Caroline Cappy

9

Caroline is one of our up and coming talents who can basically do whatever event we need her to do.  She spent most of this season adjusting to the two hurdle races.  We expect big things in the hurdles from her down the road, and hope to see her drop large amounts of time in those events.

Erin Crawford

10

Erin’s recent past included two stress fractures, one last Spring and another in Cross Country, so it wasn’t clear how she’d do this season.  In spite of those setbacks, Erin became one of our better hurdlers, picking up a very important 4th place in the 300m hurdles for us at the Regional Meet.

Kimberly Cunningham

11

Kimberly returned to us as a sprinter again this season and did well.  She didn’t seem as fond of running the 200 as she did with the 100, but Kimberly always ran well in both events when needed.  Like some of our other juniors, she has the potential to be a great senior example next year.

Adrienne Curtis

12

Adrienne started the year with a pair of very good 2 mile races, including an indoor school record, but hip problems eventually sidelined her.  Adrienne will leave Assumption, however, as one of the top distance runners in school history and as one of the hardest working runners we’ve ever had.

Renee Curtis

10

Renee is one of the better triple jumpers in the County and was a big asset for us this year in terms of experience.  She’s also one of the more entertaining people on the team.  We look to Renee to provide greater depth in both the triple and long jump next year, and maybe in the sprints as well.

Taylor Dadds

9

Taylor spent a majority of her season with a stress fracture.  Although Taylor never made it into races, she demonstrated her potential as a distance runner by pushing several of our better Varsity girls in practice over the Winter.  Next year, we know that a healed Taylor will be a fast Taylor.

Ellen Daly

11

Another of our top distance runners who was hampered by physical problems this year, losing Ellen was a very big hit to our distance running group as she has the ability to run well over a wide range of events.  Once she’s ready to go again, we know Ellen will return to a very high level.

Sara Davis

10

Sara (Wow) is a quiet superstar that others are starting to realize as a very talented distance runner.  She had a big win in the Steeplechase at the Eastern Relays and is now the school record holder in the 3200.  She’s a multi-tasker though, and was also an official t-shirt design consultant.

Amanda Day

10

Amanda had a very solid track season for us this year after being injured for most of last Spring.  Amanda focused on the 1600 and 3200, and her greatest race this year was at the Butler Invitational, where she won with a big kick at the end.  Her fastest 1600 came at the Meet of Champions.

Elizabeth Demuth

9

In her first track season, Elizabeth did very well this year.  We got to see her competitive side at the Academy Meet, when she anchored the 4 x 400 meter relay and literally gave her all in trying to beat a girl from Mercy.  She’s typically also got some funny things to say on rides over to the track.

Becca Denny

10

Becca had a record-breaking season at the Academy Meet this year in the high jump, becoming one of the few girls in school history to jump 5 feet.  She was a versatile, very important part of our field event crew and is still just learning her various events.  Over time, we know she’ll get even better.

Kelly Dermody

10

Kelly had a number of personal best moments this year in track, including some great races during the indoor season and a “very interesting” 1600 at Male High School where she won.  With some consistency and added strength, Kelly has the ability to be an outstanding distance runner.

Sarah Doerr

9

Sarah is probably best described as one of our blue-collar distance runners.  She’s not flashy, but she always works hard, always shows up, and always does whatever she’s asked.  Sarah is an outstanding young lady who’s come far this season and deserves much credit for her achievements.

Ashley El Rady

9

Ashley (68) gradually transformed over the season into one of our better 800 meter runners.  She was largely responsible for pulling our 4 x 800m relay team back into contention at the Regional Meet, which allowed us to qualify for and then run our great race at State.

Mackenzie Farrar

10

Mackenzie is one of our team comedians, and also responsible for naming the location where we met when warming up for the State Meet – the grassy knoll.  She’s never in a bad mood and is always a source of entertainment.  Mackenzie is a dedicated, consistent girl that we love having on our team.

Sam Fautz

10

Injuries kept Sam from being able to perform this year as in the past, but she at least showed signs of her former self after being our top performers in the long jump at one of the Master Schedule meets at St X.  She is a good girl as well, and has plenty of energy.

Kayla Franck

11

Kayla is the image of consistency and perseverance.  Although she has struggled with a breathing issue over the last few years, Kayla has fought back to be a solid 3200m runner.  Two of her strongest 3200 meter races came this year at the Butler Invitational and also at the St X Invitational.

Elizabeth Gerber

9

Elizabeth is a great young lady with one of the best attitudes on the team.  She wasn’t sure which event to try, and settled on the discus, where she shows great promise.  In spite of getting minimal coaching this season in an event she’s never done, Elizabeth was able to do well.

Ali Gordon

10

Ali evolved this season into one of our stronger new sprinters.  She has ability over the 100 and 200, and was a great addition on our various relays.  We hope to move Ali into some new events next year, which may help her become a very valuable asset to the team.

Rachel Gregor

10

Rachel approached this season as a quest for her Varsity letter.  We tried every race from the 400 to the 3200, wondering where it would happen.  She came through at the Butler Invitational, but then ran an awesome 800m race at the Meet of Champions that was well under the Varsity time.

Shelby Grinnan

10

Shelby is a model of consistency.  Like many of our girls, she’s not a flashy runner or someone who will get attention at the front of the pack, but Shelby has as much perseverance as any girl on the team.  Her best race was her last race, where she ran a personal best by about 14 seconds.

Christine Hall

10

Always positive and always willing to do what she’s asked, whether she wants to or not, Christine has one of the best attitudes on our team.  This was her first track season and she was an important part of our sprint crew, running relays and the 100 at most meets.

Olivia Harlow

10

Olivia wanted to make a big impact this year and she helped us out quite a bit in the 800.  When the team needed her to step up, Olivia was typically there.  Experience, confidence and added strength will serve to make Olivia into one of the better middle distance runners on our team next year.

Laura Hensler

12

Laura was our Miss Versatile this season.  She threw the shot put, ran in several different sprints and relays, and ran the 800.  Laura is another girl with a simply incredible attitude.  She’s one of the best role models on our team, and a girl who serves a great purpose by just being around.

Marissa Higgins

11

Marissa started out yet again as one of our top sprinters.  After contributing to a pair of excellent relay marks at the Eastern Relays, she was out with a season-ending injury not long after that.  Regardless, Marissa still continued to support her teammates and serve a vital role in that regard.

Shelby Holzknecht

9

Shelby’s most outstanding characteristic is her attitude.  She is almost always in a good mood, does anything you ask of her, and always performs to the best of her ability.  She ran several good 800s this year and has the potential to be a pretty decent runner as she gets older and wiser.

Chloe Huntoon

10

Chloe was a first year sprinter and, although she didn’t make it to enough meets to earn a JV certificate, Chloe was a hard worker when she came and a real inspiration.  She has a great personality and is was a lot of fun getting to know her and watch her perform.

Ade Ighodaro

12

Ade is another Senior leader who works very hard and is always out to help her team in any way possible.  Ade ventured into running the 800 for us this year and had one of her best races at a race in Mobile, Alabama.  Ade was our best 400m runner this year and big contributor on our 4 x 400m relay.

Brenna Irwin

12

Brenna is a swimmer by trade who ventured into her first season of track this year and settled on the high jump.  After spending most meets between 4’ and 4’ 4”, Brenna’s hard work paid off as she had a big jump at the Meet of Champions – getting 4’ 6”.  She’s a great girl that we’ll miss next year.

Catie Klapheke

11

Catie’s goal this season was to finish injury free and she seems to have accomplished that end.  Catie competes in both the long jump and hurdles, where she had a pretty decent season.  She was honored to represent the team at the end of the season in the long jump at the Regional Meet.

Kathryn Knabel

11

Kathryn is one of our quieter girls, but her actions spoke loudly.  She is a consistent, responsible young lady which, combined with her temperament, make her a great addition to our team.  Although she’s claimed that her dream is to transfer to St X, we’re glad she doesn’t leave us.

Brittany Lay

12

Brittany finished out her fourth consecutive season of Varsity Track.  As a girl who actually ran with us on occasion when she was in 8th grade, it’s hard to imagine ever having a season without Brittany around.  She had a good season this year, running the 800 for us in a number of big meets.

Morgan Lewis

10

Morgan had some big moments this season, including a personal best at St X in the 800 and helping the team to a 4 x 800m relay win at the Butler Invitational.  Although she doesn’t know it yet, by increasing her strength, Morgan has the potential to be a good 1600m runner next year.

Andrea Maloney

10

Andrea is one of the more even-tempered girls on the team.  She is level headed and always someone who tends to rise above any difficulties that may affect other girls.  She is a solid runner who always works hard and is one of our best attenders at practice.

Ellen Marko

9

Ellen (Nod) is becoming famous as the girl who ate a burrito as big as her head, but she became the giant-killer after beating the 6 foot girl to help our 4 x 800m relay team get 5th place at the State Meet.  What she may lack in size, she makes up for with determination and is a tremendous competitor.

Maura McKiernan

11

Maura sought to use Winter and Spring Track as a conditioning tool for Cross Country, and she ended up doing very well.  Her best race was a sub-3 minute 800 that she ran at St X, but did great at any distance between 800 and 3200 meters.  We definitely expect big things out of Maura next Fall.

Katie Meyer

9

Katie told us during Cross Country that she was a sprinter, and she had the opportunity this Spring to prove it.  We left the track season convinced she was telling the truth.  Katie was one of our 100 and 200 meter runners, and she helped out in the relays at meets like the Academy Meet.

Rachel Mills

9

Rachel is one of those girls whose easy-going nature doesn’t necessarily evoke (vocab word) images of her being too competitive, but we learned this year that she is a strong competitor.  She ran the 400 more regularly than anything, and had her best race at the Butler Invitational.

Carly Moulden

9

Carly came into Track with a story behind her.  She’s famous as the girl who could outrun the brother of one of our former sprinters.  Carly worked hard this year and really came a long way.  In looking at her, it’s obvious that she has the potential to continue improving and really help our team.

Courtney Myers

10

Courtney was one of our jumpers this year and although injuries didn’t help her in the quest for a Varsity letter, Courtney contributed much in terms of her temperament and personality.  She’s a very nice girl that we hope to see more of next year.

Hannah Mylor

9

Up until this Track season, Hannah’s knee problems did not allow her to even finish a race.  Hannah has great perseverance, a theme that runs through many of our girls, but is very high with Hannah.  Her focus this season was the 400, and her best race came at St X where she broke 1:20.

Lauren Neichter

11

Although a good runner, Lauren is as valuable to us with her personality as she is with her legs.  Lauren always seems to have a way of making people smile, whether it’s with one of her stories or just a funny comment.  She had a good season this year, and will be a great senior leader next year.

Nicole Passanisi

10

Nicole has always demonstrated the potential to be a good distance runner, and this year has really stepped forward.  Nicole qualified for the Meet of Champions, and then went on to run an excellent time in the 3200.  Over the next two years, she has the potential to be a very good 3200m runner.

Caroline Pearce

9

Like our other thrower Elizabeth, Caroline started her first track season in search of an event and found her way into the shot put.  She also aided us by running on some of our sprint relays.  Looking forward, we hope to see her continue looking for new ways to help the team.

Rachel E Pence

10

Rachel E took a year of experience and made a lot from it this season.  Rachel experimented a bit with the 400, but focused on the 100 and 200, two events where she competed for us at the Regional Meet.  As a member of our sprint relays, she was able to help the team in several different areas.

Amanda Perkins

10

Amanda struggled with shin splints last Spring, but had a great season this year.  Her primary event was the 800, and Amanda’s best race in that event came at the Meet of Champions.  She’s blessed with very good speed, so as she gains added strength we expect to see big things next year.

Michelle Pike

10

One of our high performing Pike-ettes, Michelle showed great promise in both the 800 and 1600 this year.  A big highlite for Michelle was her strong 5th place finish in the 800 at the Butler Invitational where she ran a personal best.  Michelle’s best days are still ahead of her though.

Abby Pike

10

Like her sister, Abby is one of the nicest, most consistent girls we have.  Her hard work paid off at the Butler Invitational, where Abby finished right behind Michelle in the 800 and walked away with a ribbon.  With some added strength and experience, Abby also has the potential to do very well.

Hillary Raidt

11

Every year, Hillary distinguishes herself one of the nicest girls on the team.  This season may have been more of a struggle for her, but she still had some very bright moments – including a big victory in the 800 at the Male Invitational where she held off a hard-charging girl.

Katie Raley

12

Like Brenna, Katie came to us as a swimmer hoping to high jump.  Also like Brenna, Katie managed to clear 4’ 6” – which is a height that will score points for the team at many meets.  As a senior, Katie’s personality served a very positive role, because she was always so upbeat and happy.

Brittany Raque

10

Brittany may have had some injury problems this season, but proved herself to be one of our toughest girls in the process.  Just as it was looking like she might not make it through the end of the season, she had a great meet at St X and then went on to help the team in the 100 and 4 x 100 at Regionals.

Meredith Raque

11

Meredith was a new girl with us this year who focused on the 800.  She’s got a great personality and was always very positive.  Like many of our girls, her greatest race was her last race – where she nailed down a personal best in the 800 by several seconds.

Kayla Rice

9

Kayla realized something important about herself this year; that she’s capable of doing things she doesn’t necessarily think she can do.  Kayla spent several days worrying over a 300m hurdle race that, when she finally ran it, went very well.  She’s a great girl and we were glad to have her.

Allison Riedling

10

Allison (Smiley) started the year with a school record in the indoor 1600 and eventually added a school record in the outdoor 1600.  She helped her Distance Medley team set another school record in that event, ran a great leg at State in the 4 x 800 and got a big 5th place finish in the 1600 at State.

Chelsea Ringenberg

10

Chelsea’s injuries may have gotten her grounded from practice for a while, but she hung in there and was always a very bright spot on our team.  Chelsea started the year with every intention of earning a Varsity letter, and although injuries detoured that quest, she remained a hard worker.

Brittany Robertson

10

Brittany has a very positive, bright personality and it was great having her back this Spring.  As a sprinter, Brittany contributed in a variety of events, from the 100 to the 200, as well as both sprint relays.  With an outgoing nature that makes her a natural leader, she’ll serve a big role next Spring.

Natalie Rosario

9

Natalie started this Spring season as a girl who could barely finish an easy couple of laps around the track.  She ended the season as a great young sprinter with much more stamina than she probably ever realized she’d have.  Natalie has a great personality and was always willing to do her best.

Debbie Ryan

12

A four year senior, Debbie will leave us as possibly the most unique girl that Assumption Track has ever had.  And while her running exploits will always be remembered, it will be her personality that endures.  Friendly and at times maybe even a little zany, Debbie is surely one of a kind.

Bethany Schweiger

9

Bethany (Buff) started out as a sprinter, but we quickly realized that greatness awaited her in a different event – the 800.  In her very first track season, Bethany not only excelled, but went on to help lead our team to a fifth place finish in the 4 x 800m relay at the State Meet.

Taylor Shoop

11

Just as it appeared we would lose Taylor to an injury this season again, she stepped up at the end and came back to do quite well.  Although her ankle didn’t allow her to achieve the heights she cleared in the high jump last year, Taylor did incredibly well in a very short period of time.

Emily Slaven

10

With the graduation of one of the top throwers in school history last year, Emily was suddenly in the spot light as our top returning thrower.  She had an up and down season until the very end, where she really stepped up to help the team at the Regional meet in both the shot put and discus.

Tamara Slovacek

11

One of Tamara’s most interesting moments came this year when she wore the wrong jersey on her relay team at the Butler Invitational.  In spite of standing right by the official, no call was ever made and our team was able to take home a much-deserved victory in the 4 x 800 that night.

Rachel Smith

9

Rachel may have the best form of all our sprinters, which is outstanding for a new girl like her.  She is another girl who demonstrated a big increase in fitness over the season and who could even go on to become a fairly decent long sprinter if she continues to work hard.

Amy Stamon

11

Amy was one of our brightest success stories this year.  After running very well last year, Amy came back this year to improve tremendously and nearly qualify for the State Meet.  She is an outstanding young lady that could be a very big part of next Fall’s Cross Country team.

Erin Storck

11

Erin will eventually leave us as one of the best sprinters in school history.  Only a junior, she now has a 4th and 5th place finish in the 300 hurdles at the State Meet to her credit, and with an outstanding race at State this year, became the second fastest 300m hurdler in school history.

Claire Thieneman

10

Claire is smart, entertaining and downright fun to have around.  She works hard, has a great attitude, and just loves trying to get Barry’s attention by saying “Barry-Barry-Barry” really fast.  As she moves into her junior year, she will be one of the best role models we’ll have for our younger girls.

Katie Todd

9

Katie stepped into the track season thinking she’d be a jumper, but ended up sprinting.  She was a great addition to our sprint crew, running our fastest 100m time of the year and helping our sprint relays do much better than we’d have otherwise done without her.

Katie Tuell

9

After coming on very well toward the end of Cross Country, Katie had a great first HS track season.  Katie ran both the 800 and 1600, both squeezed her way into the 60m dash at one of our indoor meets.  With time, Katie will definitely have a shot at running one of our Varsity times.

Andi Turnock

10

Andi had a very good first track season with us this year.  Her personality makes her a joy to coach and be around.  Andi helped our relay teams, but also contributed for us in the 100 and 200.  One of her better races came at the Academy Meet, where she ran a very good 200.

Angela Vish

12

Angela was a first year senior who concentrated on running the 1600 and 3200.  Although a blister from the Mini made training difficult afterwards, she always ran tough and hung in there.  Her best race probably came at St X, where she ran the 1600.  We’ll miss her though, she’s a great girl.

Olivia Wrocklage

9

Olivia was one of our most important contributors in the sprints.  She ran one of our top 200m times, but focused on helping the team in every relay other than the 4 x 800.  Time will tell if she helps in that relay too, but for now she will definitely be a very valuable part of our sprint relays.

Jenna Wrocklage

12

Jenna was a jumper, but because of injury problems her season was cut a bit short.  Regardless, Jenna showed much potential and still leaped to what would be one of our best long jumps this year.  She is a hard worker and someone that any team would benefit from, just by having her around.
